Lesands: Highlight on a Band
_If you haven’t heard of Lesands yet, you soon will. The brainchild of Austin Taylor Tirado, Lesands was originally called Arrowws when it began as a personal bedroom project in March of 2010. By the time they started playing shows barely a month later, they’d officially changed their name and found a sound that takes some bands years to fully realize. A native of San Diego, Tirado is the only official member, but other musicians trickle in and out as the live shows demand.
Although relatively new, Lesands has already found a style that suits it well. Synth-soaked tracks instantly offer listeners a dose of laid back Cali-tude on the EP, Sweet Skin, which you can download here for free. I had the chance to catch Lesands back in September of last year at the Silverlake Lounge where Tirado snagged everyone’s attention with his dance moves and eclectic retro pop. After the set, new hipster fans washed down the batch of ear candy with ice cold PBRs and hatched escape plans for an inevitable launch into popularity. The band recently toured with Foster the People, whose ridiculously catchy “Pumped Up Kicks” has been filling air time on radios all over. You might as well check out Lesands now so it won’t look like you’re hopping on the band wagon later. |
